About the Event
A concussion is “an invisible injury “not easily seen or felt by others. There is no “cast or brace” worn to indicate a physical injury is present, yet it defines you.
Consistently throughout the literature, the most commonly reported symptom following concussion is headache. Most adults who suffer a concussion will recover in the initial 10-14 days following injury. However, children and youth may take longer to recover, with up to 30% reporting ongoing symptoms 30 days following injury. As physiotherapists, we have a unique skillset that can contribute to the multidisciplinary management of concussion, especially in the case of cervicogenic headaches, cervical spine pain, vestibular and balance dysfunction and return to activity.
